Homemade Mac & Cheese

Ingredients:
2 cups elbow macaroni
2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
2 cups whole milk
4 tbsp butter
3 tbsp all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp mustard powder
1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs (optional)
Instructions:
Cook the Pasta
Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.
Make the Roux
In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until it forms a smooth paste.
Add Milk and Spices
Gradually whisk in the milk to avoid lumps, then season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and mustard powder. Stir constantly until the mixture thickens.
Add Cheese
Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar and Gruyère cheeses until melted and smooth.
Combine Pasta and Sauce
